The Burnside Prevention and Recovery Care Services (PARCs) is a collaborative initiative between two clinical Area Mental Health Services - North-Western Mental Health and Mercy Mental Health and two community Mental Health Services; Norwood Association and Western Region Health Centre. This service provides professional clinical and rehabilitation services in a supportive residential setting to clients (aged 16 to 64) in a sub-acute phase of mental illness. This short-term residential based program is highly individualised where staff work intensively with clients, family, carers and other service providers to ensure the client receives the treatment and support necessary to maximise recovery and navigate a transition back to the community. Burnside PARC also caters to people with mental illness who often have complex needs and those who are from diverse CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) backgrounds, particularly Vietnamese and African communities. The client focused model used at Burnside PARC is intended to enhance, develop and nurture the client's ability to assume greater personal control over important life choices and to strengthen each person's hope and motivation for recovery and change. Norwood is responsible for the recovery services for 10 beds and offers 24 hour a day supervised care, complemented by on-site clinical supports and treatment. Residents who utilise this service come from areas serviced by the Midwest Area Mental Health Services (Brimbank and Melton).
